California Cities Among the Worst for Bed Bugs in 2014

Endless summers, perfect Pacific surf conditions, bed bugs infestations, sunsets on the ocean, Hollywood celebrities, these are a few of my favorite- wait a minute! There are countless reasons why California is the one of the greatest places in the country to live, but a growing bed bug population is certainly not one of them… Yet all of these things reflect the current reputation of this great state.

The results are in: Orkin’s list of the top 50 U.S. bed bug cities for 2014 has been finalized, and although Chicago is at the top of the list for the second year in a row, several California cities are also among the ranks of the bed buggiest places to live.

Based on a year’s worth of data, the San Francisco bay area has been named the 19th most infested city in the United States, including the townships of Frisco and Oakland, as well as San Jose.

Further down the list this year, Sacramento, Modesto, and Stockton share the number 41 spot. Although they have recently had fewer reported bed bug infestations than previous years, our Northern California neighbors are still crawling with these pesky critters.

Now I know what you’re thinking, but Southern California is not out of the woods – in fact, according to Orkin, SoCal’s bed bug problems are actually getting worse. The exterminator giant has dubbed San Diego, CA, the 26th most infested city in the United States this year, up from our previous 32nd place ranking. Movin’ on up…

Orkin’s top 50 is not the kind of list we should be proud to be climbing. Bed bugs are sweeping the nation, and it looks like they’re perfectly happy to be bunking in our sunny California cities.

Together, we can work to get SoCal off the list altogether! Bed bugs are notoriously sneaky; in order to fully rid your home or business of these elusive critters, you’ll need the help of bed bug professionals. Call Bed Bug Solutions to solve your Southern California bed bug problem today!
